Ever since he became a pro football player for the New York Giants in 1993, Michael Strahan has been firmly held in the spotlight. The football superstar won AP's Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and was a fan-favorite until his retirement from the sport. After leaving football in 2007, he ventured into the entertainment world.
Audiences have loved Strahan on sports shows and talk shows alike due to his charming personality and signature gap-tooth, which he temporarily fixed in March! His IMDb boasts credits for hosting popular programs such as "Good Morning America," "FOX Sports," and "Live with Kelly and Ryan." But not everything in his career has been perfect. Strahan and "Live" co-host Kelly Ripa had a strained relationship on the set during his four-year stint on the show.
There's also his public life, which has at times been complicated. Strahan has been married and divorced twice, and has four children. His second ex-wife, Jean Muggli, has been in the news because she was arrested in June for allegedly violating her ex-girlfriend's restraining order, per TMZ. But Strahan's first wife has mostly stayed out of the news cycle since their divorce, which has some wondering what has she been up to.
Michael Strahan is on good terms with his first wife
Wanda Hutchins and Michael Strahan first met at an American School in Germany when they were 12 and 14 respectively, as Wanda's mom told the New York Post. Years later, in 1992, the couple got married in Denmark, according to the outlet. Strahan then began his professional football career with the NFL in 1993, which filled his schedule with practice and press.
During the course of their relationship, Strahan and Hutchins had two children. Their firstborn daughter, Tanita Strahan, was born in 1992. Their son, Michael Strahan Jr. came along three years later. Only a few months after Michael Jr. was born, Michael Sr. filed for divorce.
Strahan wrote in his 2015 motivational novel, "Wake Up Happy: The Dream Big, Win Big Guide," that he and Hutchins have since then maintained a cordial relationship so they can co-parent their children peacefully. Today, Hutchins became an interior designer and now owns Wandaful Home Design. Tanita is a popular visual artist based in Los Angeles, and she sells her colorful pieces on her website. Michael Jr. ended up graduating from the University of Texas-San Antonio. "There is so much I am thankful for," Strahan captioned an Instagram of his children for Thanksgiving. "There is nothing I am more thankful for than the honor of being a father to this group. My TEAM for LIFE!"
Wanda Hutchins came to Michael Strahan's defense
Unbeknownst to many fans, Michael Strahan has a long list of shady romances. After his divorce from Wanda Hutchins, Strahan tried his hand at marriage a second time with Jean Muggli, who managed a cosmetic store when she first met him. The couple got married in 1999 and welcome two twin girls in 2004. But their relationship ended in 2005, two years before Strahan stopped playing football. Muggli later accused Strahan of being violent toward her and their children during their marriage, but he denied these allegations. Muggli also claimed that the football player was secretly gay and he had been unfaithful, according to HuffPost.
However, Hutchins came to Strahan's defense during his legal battle with Muggli in 2006. "I believe him [Strahan] when he says that he was faithful, because when he commits to something, he doesn't waver," she told the New York Post. She shared, "We're good friends. We're parents. That's the bottom line." Hutchins also made it a point to dispel rumors surrounding their breakup, saying, "We were simply too young."
Hutchins is so supportive of Strahan that she celebrated Father's Day in 2017 with him, their kids, and his girls with Muggli. "My tribe," she captioned the group shot. Talk about a blended family making it work!
