Celebrities Who Were Hospitalized In 2024
No matter a person's status or celebrity, nobody's immune to being sick or injured. That being said, it can be jarring for a fan to read that a celeb has been hospitalized. The term can reference somebody who has been hurt in an accident or somebody who has entered the hospital to undergo treatment for an illness or health condition.
Early on in 2024, two members of the royal family were admitted to the hospital. Both Catherine, Princess of Wales, and King Charles III spent time in the London Clinic. Neither were rushed to the hospital, as they both underwent planned surgeries. What differentiated the two reports, however, was that, while Charles had a quick stay, Kate's was much longer, which sparked questions about the severity of her condition.
The immediate inclination may be to find out as much information as possible about why a well-known person was hospitalized. Often, details can be intentionally obscured as the individual wants privacy while undergoing treatment or recovering in a facility. Fans have good intentions and just want to be updated about the health status of the given celebrity. Here are the notable celebrities who were hospitalized in 2024.
Kate Middleton
Catherine, Princess of Wales, was admitted to the hospital on January 16, but Kensington Palace assured the public there was no cause for alarm as she underwent a "planned abdominal surgery." A palace statement said Kate was to remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days post-op, at which time she would then enter recovery. "Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter," the statement read, while also asking the public to respect Kate's privacy. Many wondered why there was so much secrecy surrounding Kate's condition, as the media wasn't allowed to congregate outside the hospital. "This is a different situation to the royal children's births, and you have to consider the privacy of other patients," Emily Nash, royal writer for Hello!, explained on January 25.
Few details about the nature of the surgery were revealed and the length of recovery caused some concern, but an insider close to the royal family assuredly told People Kate would be fine despite how it may have sounded. Meanwhile, another source close to the royals said that Princess Kate's hospitalization not only surprised the public, but also many in the family's inner-circle, per another report from People.
William, Prince of Wales, visited Kate in the hospital, as did his father, King Charles III, who was admitted to the same hospital to undergo his own medical procedure.
King Charles III
On January 26, King Charles III entered the London Clinic private hospital to undergo "scheduled treatment" for an enlarged prostate. Queen Camilla accompanied him into the hospital, which was a break from protocol as Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, would always enter the hospital separate from her spouse. When Camilla left the hospital she gave a brief update on Charles' status following the procedure. "He's doing well, thank you," she told the press, per BBC. One major positive to come out of the king's hospital stay was that it brought public awareness to prostate issues. Reportedly, the news inspired many to search for details about enlarged prostate risks online. "[Charles] is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness," a statement from Buckingham Palace read.
While at the London Clinic, Charles stopped by and visited Catherine, Princess of Wales, who was in the same hospital after undergoing planned abdominal surgery. Kate was scheduled to stay for 10 to 14 days, but Charles was expected to leave after only a day.
Leading up to his hospital stay, Camilla warned her husband that he was overworking himself. "The Queen has told him he needs to slow down a bit," a royal insider told The U.S. Sun on January 23. Charles, however, didn't plan to heed his wife's warnings once out of the hospital. "He's going to be raring to go once he's had a short period of recuperation," a source told The Telegraph on January 23.
Anthony Anderson
In February 2024, "Black-ish" star Anthony Anderson revealed he had been hospitalized following an on-set accident. "I spent the night in the emergency room. Movie set fight gone wrong. Me against two goons and a chair! Guess who didn't win!" Anderson captioned an Instagram photo of himself lying in a hospital gurney. Despite suffering no fractures or broken bones, Anderson will be taking enough precautions moving forward by using stuntmen in his subsequent projects. "I'm not as young as I used to be! CT scan and X-rays showed nothing fractured or broken in my back just a deep contusion. That chair will never be the same though! Bloodied and bowed but never broken!" he added.
In a separate post, Anderson shared a photo of the chair responsible for his injury. "Something about it is menacing! It sucker punched me in the kidneys and back with no mercy! When I got on set today it was grinning at me! Little does he know I got something for that ass! He gone learn today!" the actor quipped. Unsurprisingly, news of Anderson's hospitalization was met with well wishes from fans and friends including his "Black-ish" co-star Tracee Ellis Ross.
Anderson sustained his injury in South Africa while filming "G20," a movie starring many Hollywood powerhouses including Viola Davis and Marsai Martin.
Kate Beckinsale
While celebrating her mom, Judy Loe on Mother's Day in March 2024, Kate Beckinsale sent fans into a frenzy after sharing pictures of herself in a hospital. The post, which doubled as a birthday tribute, featured several pictures of Loe and a few of Beckinsale in a hospital bed. "Happy everything mama. Your fight for joy despite also welcoming tears is the experience of watching a warrior up close. I love you," the "Prisoner's Daughter" star captioned. Despite the positive energy in her caption, however, fans couldn't help but worry about Beckinsale's well-being. "Are you okay? Why are you in a hospital? Please get well soon," one user commented. "Such a sweet post for your Mama. I pray for your recovery, whatever it is you may be going through Kate," another added.
Days later, the "Underworld" actor shared another photo, this time showing herself snuggled up with her cat Willow in a hospital bed. Though she has yet to disclose the reason for her hospitalization, a source confirmed to ET that Beckinsale had been ill for a while and was trying to keep it all together. "Kate Beckinsale hasn't been doing or feeling well. She was supposed to go to the Vanity Fair Oscars party and had to cancel. She is doing her best to take care of herself, but it's not a great situation," the insider explained.
Ashley Park
On January 19, Ashley Park, best known for her role as Mindy Chen in "Emily in Paris," shared that she had been hospitalized after suffering septic shock. "While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs. I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told," she captioned an Instagram carousel featuring pictures and videos of her stay in the hospital. In the Instagram post, Park also thanked her loved ones, including partner Paul Forman, who stood by her side through the scary ordeal. "You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know," Park wrote in the caption.
A few days after sharing news of her hospitalization, Park took to Instagram, this time with a positive update on her health. Alongside a few slides of pictures featuring flowers, puzzles, and her "Emily in Paris" co-star Lily Collins, Park wrote a lengthy caption, revealing she had been released from the hospital and was recuperating in Paris.
Cori Broadus
On January 18, Cori Broadus — the youngest daughter of rapper Snoop Dogg and Shante Broadus — revealed she was hospitalized after suffering a terrible strike. "I had a severe stroke this a.m. I started breaking down crying when they told me. Like I'm only 24, what did I do in my past to deserve all of this," she lamented on her Instagram story (via People). Six days later, Broadus shared an update with fans revealing that her CT Scan came back normal and she was set to be released from the hospital. "I'm going home today I can [probably] cry omgggg. Thank you thank you for the continuous prayers, love, etc," she captioned a post shared on her Instagram Story (via Los Angeles Times).
In a different post, Broadus also shared with fans some of the warning signs she experienced before her health scare. On her Insta story, the 24-year-old listed blurry vision, nausea, fatigue, and headache as some of the symptoms she experienced before having the stroke. "All my symptoms a day before the stroke. Listen to your body for real. I'm glad I'm still here and able to tell my story," she wrote (via People).
Broadus's recent hospitalization comes amid her long-term struggle with lupus. At only 6, Broadus was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease but has since gone on to live a functional life. "I've been good, better than I've ever been," she told People back in September 2023.
